Clown show protests antiabortion march
Counter-protest grew out of an online discussion forum discussing the controversial Men's March
A group of Clowns met an antiabortion march in Boston this past weekend as part of a counter-protest, an event held by a national group that organizes men to protest abortion rights.
The Clown March, as the pro-choice contingent is known, plays music and lampoons the antiabortion group known as the Men’s March, which began in 2021 with 300 men in Washington, D.C., gathering as part of a collective argument that men have as much right to determine whether a woman carries on a pregnancy as the woman does.
The Men’s March features a bunch of men dressed in formal attire who protest abortions. They begin their march in Boston in front of the local Planned Parenthood office. They pray for about half an hour before walking to Boston Commons. It’s held annually.
Three years ago, the Clown March grew from a Reddit subboard discussing the Men’s March coming to Boston. The clowns walk next to the Men’s March as it’s underway, playing music and expressing pro-choice views. This year, they attracted more than 100 people.
“It's no real point in trying to directly confront them, but rather it's to kind of to make them look sillier and to minimize their messages as well,” said one of the Clown March organizers, who wished to remain anonymous.
