Most Tennesseans think abortion should be legal in certain circumstances
It's unclear whether they would support abortion generally, though
A new poll from Vanderbilt University shows that 77 percent of Tennesseans support having exceptions for rape and incest in abortion laws in the state.
Since 2011, the Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions launched the Vanderbilt Poll to provide a non-partisan and scientifically based reading of public opinion within Tennessee and Nashville. The Vanderbilt Poll conducts statewide surveys at least twice a year, before the start of the state legislative session and at its conclusion.
Seventy-eight percent of people thought abortion should be legal in cases where a fetus is not viable.
The support is overwhelming, even among Republicans who support Trump. Sixty-five percent of those voters support exceptions in cases of rape and incest. Sixty-two percent support exceptions for fetal abnormality.
They also polled voters on whether they would vote for Trump if he were convicted of one or more felonies. Thirty-seven percent of the total said they would.
