Senate Democrats resist efforts to curtail veterans reproductive care
Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville behind effort to curb access at VA Hospitals
The U.S. Senate failed in an attempt to restrict reproductive care at Veterans Affairs hospitals across the country. They had sought to eliminate abortions altogether at the facilities.
Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., introduce the motion, which failed in a 48-51 vote.
Tuberville–in continuing to protest the Pentagon’s treatment of abortion–responded by saying that he would attempt to halt promotions of top-level generals and officers, according to reporting done by NBC News.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer spoke earlier in the day about the motion.
“It’s disappointing, so disappointing, that our colleagues on the other side of the aisle haven’t yet called out Senator Tuberville for his reckless stunt,” Schumer said. “Their silence is deafening. A few have, but very, very few. I thank those who have raised their voices, but we need more because the silence is deafening.”
