Some abortion stats from Texas
New dataset indicates what abortion care looks like in the lone star state
Texas legislation that curbs abortion access disproportionately affects women of color. In a recent statistical set that the state compiled for the year 2021, researchers revealed that roughly 34,000 of the nearly 47,000 abortions involved non-white patients.
Eighty-five percent of them were unmarried and most were between the ages of 18 and 40.
Interestingly, 6759 women had abortions past the 8th week of that year. That’s past the benchmark established by SB 8 for when people can successfully sue doctors for performing a procedure on a woman.
